A Republic spanning most of Theros and one of the oldest polises created when the Hero’s Kynaios and Tiro overthrew Agnomakhos the Archon. Agnomakhos and his empire reached to the furthest corners of Theros and his oppression knew no constraints. Kynaios and Tiro rebelled and with the help of Ephara created Meletis the polis now stands as a center for trade, culture, and civilization to flourish. Governed by The Twelve, a council of philosophers who are the ruling body for the polis and the other cities it controls. The council members serve for four year terms elected by popular vote, often the members take a very active role in the community given Ephara’s teachings.
Over the last couple decades Meletis has been without crime due to the extremely strict laws and vigilance of the guards, though recent attempts by agents of Phenax may have opened the door for more criminals to take root.
Meletis is also home to one of the most well stocked libraries in all of Theros run by scholars and philosophers alike, though there is a shadow to this light who work to keep more dangerous knowledge out of the wrong hands.
