Robair
"Elf" Wizard - (Rob)
Overview
Appearance:
A slender elf with long bony fingers and a slight purple toned skin, long braided silver hair runs down the back.
Often avoiding eye contact with others, but if you managed to look long enough you would see deep blackness with a starry gleaming yellow pupils as if the sun were suspended in the eye itself. Dressed in elegant robes of the Lotus Petal Library carrying a large heavy tomb on his back, a scroll case on his hip, and burn scars on his chest and inner arms kept hidden by his clothing.
Beginning:
Dropped off outside of the Lotus Petal Library in a basket with a note saying āWill be back once he has grown up.ā Growing up Robair was the only child in the library surrounded by stuffy old sages in a small library. The librarians had initially debated what to do with him but the master librarian, Azaki, made the decision to keep and raise Robair once seeing the mysteries that were in his eyes. One look and he knew Robair may look like a typical elf but was most certainly not.
Growing Up:
Robairās young life was both busy and lonely; being the only child among old scholars left him feeling isolated. It certainly didnāt help that when sages and readers looked into his eyes they felt uneasy, thus Robair learned to avoid eye contact with all but master Azaki who upon first seeing his eyes was did not feel unease but curiosity and decided to grow the Lotus Petal Library into the foremost collection of knowledge in the lands.
Robair spent a number of years being tutored by the sages of the library gaining an exceptional education though it came at the cost of having to work apprentice librarian tasks. Such tasks included organizing bookshelves, retrieving books for readers, scribbing copies of books, and ensuring the tidiness of the halls.
Eventually when Robair was old enough he was allowed to start studying magic Azaki began teaching the basics to Robair when he wasnāt busy managing the library, which sadly demanded a majority of his time.
The Fire:
One night shortly after beginning the study of magic Robair awoke to the smell all librarians fear the most, the smell of burning books. Rushing out of his quarters to find the library ablaze with sages running around trying to save as many books as possible. Robair rushed to Azakiās chambers to evaluate, only to find it empty. With the fire quickly spreading behind him Robair gathers as many books and notes as he could carry off of Azakiās desk and attempted to escape. Several of the books Robair held started catching fire in his arms as he ran through the halls, but he continued running until he was out of the library and safe outside the burning building. Most of the books he carried had burned away and only now did Robair notice had left several serious burns across his inner arms and chest. Though two books remained a large heavy tome containing the records of all the books in the library and a small spellbook belonging to Azaki.
Sadly many of the sages and librarians died in the fires that night though some escaped, however more were driven mad with the trauma of seeing their lives work and close colleges burn away in an instant. Robair after spending several weeks recovering from his burns decided to rebuild what was lost after all he had the master tome and Azakiās spellbook. Though reading through the spellbook found only blank pages except for a strange invitation used as a bookmark. It seemed that shortly after the fire all spells and writing in the book had strangely disappeared.
Present:
Once Robair had recovered from the burns he leant several things. Azakiās spellbook was an enduring spellbook explaining why it had survived the flames though not why the spells had vanished. Second, no one had seen Azaki, no one knew if he was alive or dead. No bodies were recovered; the flames had reduced everything to ashes.
Robair wanted to rebuild the library, but that cost a lot of money and he was suddenly homeless and without any possessions other than his sleeping garments and the books / invitation from Azakiās room. Robair worked off his medical debts by doing record keeping for the hospital that healed him for a few weeks. Always making sure to ācookā the books ever so slightly for the richest of patients to earn a couple extra coins for himself. Robair set off before any trouble could catch up with him without a real idea of where to start gathering all the books needed to rebuild the library; he decided to investigate the strange invitation found in the spellbook.
