Session 29 7/23/2021 cont.
In the morning we huddled over breakfast and went over our options. Travel from Tanimere to Larondell had lasted 5 days on horseback. We could not leave the town for a 10 day round trip and allow The Reaper to wreak havoc unchecked. But on the other hand, we had promised Ravenna to make her a priority and return her to the Temple of Tyr as soon as possible. We were quite worried that if we did not do that as quickly as possible, she may bolt from us, maybe even returning to the Cult of the Grey Master.
In the end, the plan we came up with was to wait until noon when The Reaper would show himself again, attempt to ambush and destroy him. Then using the power of the Wind Walk spell we would quickly leave Larondell and fly to Tanimere. We figured we could make the trip in 5 hours instead of 5 days.
We would then ensure that Ravenna was treated fairly and had her curse/punishment lifted, rest for the night, and then fly back the next morning to confront The Reaper when he reincorporated again.
Ravenna agreed with our plan and we then put the morning to the best use we could. When it got close to noon, Sylrel cast her locate creature spell to find The Reaper and I cast Windwalk so we could travel in mist form. We then flew in a patrol patter around the middle of the city until The Reaper was eventually detected.
We flew the plaza that Sylrel indicated, but we did not see The Reaper. We did see several dead townsfolk and there was a general panic. As planned, we all took form around the plaza on rooftops or hidden behind buildings as we thought appropriate.
Sylrel cast fairy fire in the center of the plaza lighting up The Reaper and we quickly attacked. To be honest, the fight went really quick and we did not feel in serious danger. It really did not paint Yost and his group in a good light, but on the other hand, we were likely more powerful than they had been when they confronted The Reaper, and we had collected a lot of information in advance. He did appear stronger than when we first encountered him, so the stories of him growing in strength appeared true.
After the fight we took a moment to ensure everyone was ok, then we took of straight for Tanimere. As we figured, by flying we were able to quickly cover the ground and made it in about 6 hours.
When we made it to Tanimere we materialized outside of the temple and then approached it to ask after Gavrus. There was some confusion at first, the acolytes we spoke too did not know who Ravenna was and were uncertain if Gavrus would want to see us, but they finally went to deliver our message.
After a bit Gavrus appeared and he was quite shocked that were actually there with Ravenna. We had not sent an update on our progress, so he had no idea we were close to saving her. For his part Gavrus was extremely apologetic and seemed to actually regret what had happened to Ravenna. He said that they would immediately begin the ceremony to reverse what had been done to her.
We insisted on staying the night at the temple’s expense so that we could speak to Ravenna in the morning and ensure that the temple had lived up to it’s word. In the morning we met with Ravenna and another official of the church. He told us that Gavrus had been removed from his position due to his conduct and delivered the reward we had originally been offered.
The official did ask us for any details we could provide and in the end we choose not to. Simply stating that was Ravenna’s story and she could share it if she wished. After the official left, we spent some time with just Ravenna to verify that she was being treated ok.
She assured us she was and that she would be ending her association with the church and leaving that day to return to some family. We offered to include her in a final casting of Windwalk to speed her on her way, but she preferred to take a more normal mode of transportation.
