Khajiit "Sandrunner"
Tabaxi Rogue / Ranger
Khajiit, also known as Sandrunner, is from Fezzou, a little oasis village in the deserts of Marquet and works as a messenger / courier. His true passion is archeology though; digging through old ruins, exploring caves, searching for forgotten treasures. But he hasn’t hit the jackpot yet so to support himself and his poor family he has a day job running around, traveling long distances to other settlements in Marquet, to hand-deliver important messages, letters and packages. Do some packages sometimes get a liiittle bit delayed because Khajiit travelled past an interesting looking area, and “surely there must be treasure there”? Perhaps that’s happened once or twice…
Khajiit is married to Inoki, a Tabaxi two years younger who he met in a different oasis on one of his delivery runs. They don’t have a litter of kittens yet, as Khajiit keeps pushing it off to find his big score first.
Khajiit and Inoki lived with Khajiit’s parents (J’saad and Ivory) in a two-bedroom hut on the edge of the village. His best childhood friends were his cousin Cloud and a thiefling girl named Anakis, together the three of them always went out on adventures. It was on one of these adventures that Khajiit discovered his psychic abilities, when they were attacked by a giant scorpion. When Anakis was about to be pierced by the massive stinger, Khajiit hurled a shimmering blade of pure psychic energy, killing the creature without leaving any kind of mark whatsoever. After that, it took years of training out in the desert to be able to do this again at will.
Highs and lows
A few months ago Khajiit did finally hit the jackpot. All that research in various libraries -in the little free time he had- paid off when he found the entrance to the ruins of an old palace, destroyed and buried in the desert during the Age of Arcanum, back when Marquet was still the lush home of a thriving civilization. So much lost and waiting to be found again, and here he was, exploring rooms not seen by anyone for more than a thousand years. He dodged traps, killed a few undead and managed to break into a safe.
This haul would finally catapult him into the spotlight; he’d be a famous and wealthy archeologist! He could finally buy his wife a proper wedding ring, one with a huge diamond. More importantly, they could have that litter they wanted so very badly. All their troubles would be over, praise Avandra!
He brought all the riches he found to the biggest Archeologist Guild in Ank’Harel, one of those fancy houses where men in suits sit around, smoking pipes, sipping expensive drinks and talking about their past glories. He so desperately wanted to belong among them and finally he had made a worthy discovery. Too bad Samir Harrak, the devilishly charming number one archaeologist of the Guild just recently made a bet that he’d be the one to find the lost palace and its riches. So when Khajiit entered the Guild, asked for Samir and proudly showed his finds and talked about the palace he had found, he quickly found out that not all archaeologists are gentlemen.
On his way back to the cheap inn where he and his wife Inoki were staying, he was ambushed by Samir and 3 other guys, it wasn’t a fair fight at all. They left him for dead and took the backpack containing the riches. Samir laughed, saying “can you believe this fucking cat thought he was better than me?” Khajiit, barely alive, managed to crawl back to the inn. He realized he’d never be safe - if Samir knew he was still alive, he would surely finish the job once and for all. All this for a bet?
Khajiit and Inoki sold their final belongings and took the first boat off of Marquet, fleeing for their lives, leaving their house, friends and family in Fezzou behind.
Luck favors the bold
After a horrible and lengthy journey across the Lucidian Ocean, Khajiit and Inoki finally set foot in Rexxentrum. Even though it wasn’t quite as large as Ank’Harel, it was still a huge bustling city, filled with so many people. And so cold! Khajiit felt trapped, couldn’t breath, he had to leave this place as soon as possible. But they had no money to travel, and nobody was handing out jobs to Tabaxi in this part of the world. Khajiit had to resort to begging and stealing, until he finally had enough money to take his wife to Shadycreek Run, where he heard an excavation of Elven ruins was being organized from. This, he had to see. And as Avandra preaches: Your fate is your own to grasp, and to do so is to have the Change Bringer behind you.
