Arc 2: The Unseen
Following the discussion with Nezznar, the group had a better idea of what they were facing, though at the expense of an uneasiness brought on by the dead drow. Once more, Jiin intruded in on Adaliah’s Dream Plane to reiterate that if she is unable or unwilling to provide any updates soon on Bibi, she would start murdering Timothy’s found family one-by-one. Luckily, Adaliah was able to hold off the murderous entity for a few more days, buying time for both the party and the hostages.
By afternoon, the party arrived at the Wayside Inn where more highway guards have made their way to the makeshift mid-point station. While there, the group was able to catch up with some familiar faces: Adaliah talked business with Jynx and also learned a little more about their patron, the Mistress of Magic and Midnight; the Professor showed Martisha their home-away-from-home; and Vargle confirmed that there has been less undead encounters with the Highway Guard; and Kitmor took the time to observe her surroundings and picked up a few notes:
• the High Road was not busy (a given) due to the travel restrictions still in effect. They also use the Wayside Inn as a shift-exchange, benefitting Martisha as the high-level a security invites folks passing by to stay longer
• Bardryn (Wayside Inn’s on-site smithy) is working on armor at the request of the highway elite guards, specifically heavy armor (as noted by the specific pinging from the forge)
• noticed spiders that were all around and caught one, realizing that they were created from the flock of familiars spell
When the group reconvened, they encountered a weird phenomenon in the following sequence:
- Adaliah experienced a poking feeling at her brain, as if something honed in on her
- Those with blindsight (Vargle + Mando) saw an invisible wave wash over the inn shortly after, moving south-to-north
- Investigating further outside, the party barely caught a sense of a flying entity leaving their area heading north/northeast, possibly
Given the strange activities afoot, The Professor decided to check on his “spot”, only to discover the worst possible outcome: an empty grave.
Then the group enjoyed a delicious meal from Chef Beignet who had transferred form Phandalin.
