From the Baron to duke Mancini.
62nd ruler of that which you call Erban, Paolini Mancini;
I denounce you. Your heart is etched black, to force a young and noble lady into an agreement that neither of them wish to be in. Do you see love in their eyes? Does the reflection of a dagger in her side mirror affection to you? I understand that the way of this modern era is one of bartering, of give and take, but surely this is too much even for someone like you. She isn’t in danger of the physical sense, but you must know the history of these houses. You must understand exactly what modernity you are trying to bring into a land of old. This modern age cannot be built upon the corpses of my people, we do not make good soil. You will bury us all under your hubris.
I denounce you, now, and deny you my protection, not out of spite, but out of fear for your dear daughter. For our people. In the hope that seeing darkness will make you aware of the light that you are squandering, and you will put off this silly little engagement and not put hundreds of years of treaties into jeopardy. I trust, truly, that you are a smarter man than this. You have to be a smarter man than to be strung in these silly plans.
I denounce you, and I have only done this twice in history. You make the third, and I hope you follow in their footsteps, duke. If not, I shall raise the earth and bring down the skies until you learn that there are things greater in this world than your measly mind. You will learn what it means to betray a creature with a heart full of more shadow and blood than you could hope to contain. Good day.
Sleep well.
