The Rise and Fall of Gwyneth Clearwater
How a great crime family became and be-went
Clearwater Shipping Company was, of course, founded by Gwyneth Clearwater herself. Everyone knows of her for her business, either for her remarkable professionalism and ability to deliver on seemingly impossible deadlines or for the high quality drugs she produces and her seemingly flawless smuggling contacts. However, many don’t realize her past as a Waveview Port local.
Born into a middle class family on the right side of the river, young Gwen was a bright and curious child. Gravitating towards nature, she spent many happy hours outside fishing or reading beneath her beloved oak tree. As she grew up, she became more and more jaded, deciding that her family’s wealth was what made them great and that becoming wealthier was the only way for her to build a lasting legacy. After discovering the seedy underbelly of Waveview Port, she quickly became embroiled in the rampant drug trade, smoothing the sharp edges and organizing the crime activities in the port. Over time, she grew to be the empress of the underbelly, her strict brand of justice keeping the drifters in line or dead.
Eventually she grew too big for her pond, however, and another big name decided to personally pay her a visit through the use of hiring someone else to go do it. Harold Constanpanople (known to the Brotherhood as Harold the Counterfeiter). He hired Cerulean Cointoss, a pirate captain from some faraway sea for the cost of a favour, and Cerulean and his crew made good on their word.
Gwyneth was found dead under strange, slightly suspicious circumstances. Her room was found damaged in an inexplicable way, appearing ransacked yet only missing a dresser. The woman herself was dead in her bead from a drug overdose, and though there were tons of drugs in her basement, the investigation never uncovered any ledgers (Cerulean’s crew took it on a whim) and so it was determined to be a wealthy woman’s shameful habit. And so her legacy became a cautionary tale instead of the brilliant businesswoman it would have otherwise been.
