Kelemvor
Kelemvor holds several titles and plays a significant role in the Forgotten Realms, including but not limited to: Lord of the Dead, he who oversees the passage of souls from life to death, ensuring a just and orderly transition; Judge of the Damned: he who weighs the deeds of mortals, determining their fate in the afterlife; and The Great Guide, he who leads souls to their next existence, whether it be eternal rest or a new beginning. His Domains include:
• Death: Kelemvor’s primary domain is death itself. He ensures that souls find their rightful place.
• Fate: He oversees the threads of destiny, guiding mortals toward their ultimate purpose.
• Justice: Kelemvor upholds fairness and balance, especially in matters of the afterlife.
Kelemvor views death as a natural part of life, not to be feared, and it is said that this eternal cycle of existence is guided by Kelemvor, who leads souls to their next phase. His worshipers are attracted to these aspects of the afterlife, many of whom are gravediggers, hunters of the undead, morticians, and mourners. His clergy offering services to perform funerary rites, counsel the bereaved, and ensure peaceful rest for the departed. Kelemvor’s symbol is an upright skeletal arm holding evenly balanced golden scales.
Fun Facts:
• Cyric killed Kelemvor, but his soul was absorbed into the sentient sword Godsbane, which was actually Mask, the God of Thieves in disguise. After escaping imprisonment, Kelemvor led a revolt against Cyric and became the new God of Death and the Dead.
• Holy Days: The Feast of the Moon and Shieldmeet are sacred times for Kelemvor’s followers.
