Wuyun Gate
The southernmost boundary of the Dwendalian Empire, the Wuyun Gate rests within the Wuyun Gorge where the Ashkeeper Peaks meet the Cyrios Mountains. The imposing structure stands as a huge testament to both architectural grandeur and fortified defense. The gate is a massive stone edifice, intricately carved with symbols and motifs representing the region’s rich history. Its towering walls stretch high, almost 30 into the sky, creating a foreboding presence against the horizon. The walls extend the length of the gorge, almost 2 miles between where each side melds with the mountain stone.
The main ancient entrance to the Gate is a wide archway in the center, sealed by a pair of imposing iron gates adorned with intricate patterns. These gates are typically closed, barring unauthorized entry by enemies of the Empire. It is said that for them to remain open more than a day is a symbol that the Empire has fallen. Smaller entrances flank the main gate, with three alternate entrances on each side; two smaller pedestrian gates for foot traffic and a portcullis for vehicles or carts. Each of these smaller entrances are used regularly and now have a checkpoint established in front of them.
The checkpoints themselves consist of several makeshift stalls equipped with desks, ink pots, and various documents, where guards meticulously review the paperwork of those passing through. Guards patrol the lines, scrutinizing those who approach, occasionally requesting individuals to step aside for additional questioning or inspection.
