On the morning of the fourth day, the Tide of Ruidus finds port at Vide Cay. Cassie doesn’t wake up; Stone does.
The crew disembarks, with half heading out with Applethorn and Stone to find the trees and vines needed for supplies, while the others unload the ship’s wood processing equipment and make camp. Amira heads off into the jungle with Della, while Katerina and Scrum tag along. After a couple hours of traversing the dense jungle foliage, they come upon a small clearing with white sand beaches, a saltwater pool in the center, fed by a roaring waterfall.
Scrum’s Divine Sense revealed the area beneath the pool had pieces that were consecrated (blessed as holy ground) and fragments of a celestial, though that power was somewhat dormant. Amira and Della entered the pool, with Amira immediately diving beneath, while Katerina and Scrum explored the cave.
Under the water, Amira, soon joined by Della, found three statues of cephalopod-human hybrids, distinctly different from Illithid, and infinitely more approachable. Each of them are carved with a necklace similar to the one worn by the Marid in Festerwill Pool. Each offered a riddle and gave her a piece of a necklace, before summoning a water humanoid, similar to how Amira’s patron has appeared to her before, but now in a more detailed statue form, hands clasped around a falchion. With a final riddle, the statue said
“I am Zenethor. If you have found this place, I have guided you as I reside at the brink of death. Take this blade and the knowledge of my name to assist you in my return. Do not fail.” The statue disappears and leaves the falchion buried in the sand with another necklace around the pommel.
Meanwhile, Scrum and Katerina explored the waterfall finding a winding narrow cavern beyond, hidden by a curtain of vines. The walls of the cavern were covered in a strange viserca and a strange growl is coming from within. Suddenly, a mutter: “Zenethor. Must warn.” and a scraping groaning signal that something was leaving the cave. Scrum and Katerina hid as a huge, pink jelly creature appeared out of the came, with stones and barrels, limbs and a couple spears stuck to it’s form. It screeched the moment that the statue beneath said “Zenethor” and then said something else about a warning before taking off through the woods, headed for the ocean shore.
Katerina gave chase (after determining there was nothing of interest in the cave) and Scrum investigated the cave further to find that strange glyphic writing was all over the walls, seemingly from a myriad of languages. One thing was clear: this is a warning. Amira and Della explored the cave also, with Amira confirming it was a warning, thanks to her comprehend language ability, while Della recognized these glyphs as elemental transcriptions used by Planeswalkers (her mother) to contain and trap energy from portals to the Elemental plans.
At the oceanfront, Katerina watched the creature enter the water, wading until it was waist deep and began to groan and moan like a lighthouse, contorting the waves to flow and ebb in time with it’s strange song. After a moment of synchronisity with the ocean, the creature screamed and sent a wave soaring through the ocean, magically carried over the waves and continuing out and out and out until it disappeared from view, but not into the waves.
The group returned to camp to wait for the supplies to be returned and the processing to start.
