Session 1 cont., 10/9/2021
The journey to Larondell took a week and was relatively peaceful. On the last day while traveling down the road, the group heard a strange and awful sound coming from around the bend ahead. Evelios Liriel was determined to have the best chance at being stealthy, so he went forward to investigate while the other stayed back and waited. What he saw was very strange and he hurried back to report on it.
Around the corner was a wagon, the type usually used by traveling salesman or tinkers. A zombie was apparently stuck to wagon by a javelin run through it and a rather large and rotund man was sitting nearby talking to himself.
The group approached and the man introduced himself as Professor Jervis Mirrakle, a traveling salesman on his way to Larondell. He had been taken by surprise by the zombie attack, but had managed to use the javelin to pin the zombie to the wagon. Sadly, that was his only weapon and he had not figured out a way to finish the beast.
Evelios Liriel and Sylrel helped to kill the beast from range, while Lormin watched on, mystified by the largely overweight and out of shape man who could hurl a javelin with enough force to pin a zombie to a wagon.
In order to show his gratitude, Professor Jervis Mirrakle gave each of the party members a minor magic potion. A potion of growth to Sylrel, a potion of climbing to Lormin and a potion of XXX to Evelios Liriel.
It was decided to travel together to Larondell. In order for the increased protection, Professor Jervis Mirrakle recommended the group stay at the Roc’s Nest and then provided them with a wealth of local knowledge. He provided background knowledge of Larondell‘s many problems with the undead and more specific information on the “Dead Rider” and “Ladies in White”.
Ariving in Larondell, the group decided to stay at the Roc’s Nest as advised. Sylrel paid for a private room while Lormin and Evelios Liriel opted for the common room. The group met Gharrus Khorvin the owner of the inn, Khira the barmaid, Maranda Khul a local card sharp and Kevin Drayer a young boy who works odd jobs and cleaning at the inn.
During dinner Professor Jervis Mirrakle recognized a familiar face in the crowd. He called over a fellow traveler, Jerry Beard to introduce to the group. Jerry Beard was in the area to check on the rumored destruction of a local vampire lord in the last year and the general high level of undead activity. It was decided that his expertise and skills would be a boon to the party and he was invited to join forces.
After dinner, it was overhead that it was getting dark, so Kevin Drayer should hurry home before it became unsafe. The party decided the level of concern was unusually high, so offered to walk him home in order to get a chance to investigate.
Kevin Drayer told the group about a number of goings on. First was the cause for his needing to hurry home, the disappearance of so many local children. Children disappeared from the streets mostly, but sometimes from their homes as well. Their bodies were some times found down by the harbor after.
He also told the group that there was a monster that needs killing. Apparently his father is being held at the Town Asylum by Kohren Vhost. His mother has been denied the right to visit him and they will not release him. Stories say that people who stay in the Town Asylum are changed after and no longer themselves.
Kevin Drayer offered the group 32 copper to kill Kohren Vhost and free his father. The group promised to look into the issue very soon, but did NOT take his money or promise to kill Kohren Vhost.
Upon returning to the Roc’s Nest the group was greeted by Lormin‘s horse in a panic and fleeing quickly down the road. Sylrel caught the horse and the group ran quickly to the Roc’s Nest.
Upon arriving, they discovered that Professor Jervis Mirrakle‘s horse had turned into a zombie and killed the other two horses. The party quickly put down the zombie horse and instructed the staff at the inn to burn all the horse bodies.
The group decided to rest for the night and start fresh in the morning with hopes to visit the Temple of Tyr and the Town Asylum the next day.
