The next morning, Caefaera found a golden acorn under her pillow. She knew that an acorn like this, delivered by a Pixie, was a typical way to communicate between the Feywild and the Material plane. Indeed, inside was a message:
“ To Caefyra,
Once Honored of the Hunt,
I, Enthyra Therlarral of the Sunfire Throne, write to you not only as the new leader of the Wild Hunt but as one who understands the fire that once burned in your heart for our cause. The Hunt has changed, as have I, and in this new age, we stand on the brink of a far greater purpose.
Your skills, your wisdom, and your unyielding spirit are needed now more than ever. The Hunt calls again, and I ask you to rejoin us—not as you were, but as the one you have become. Together, we will forge a new path, one of greater strength and unity, where the Wild Hunt can rise to its true potential.
The choice is yours, as it has always been. But know this: without you, the Hunt will never be whole.
In flame and shadow,
Enthyra Therlarral
Sunfire Throne,
Keeper of the Wild Hunt.”
The rest of the group learned that the Wild Hunt was both a group and an event which Caefaera was a part of. This was the “family” she had referred to earlier, that had abandoned her. The Wild Hunt was under the Wings of the “Queen of Air and Darkness”, which meant Caefaera had been in her service once and had been a member of the Unseelie Cort of which she was the ruler. Her task at the court was to “hunt”, which also meant hunting people.
Caefaera is intrigued by the message, since she is still puzzled why she was abandoned. Also, a discussion among the group arises whether it would be awkward for Eldara and Casmos to meet an actual, physical moon lady that is not “her” moon lady, but they seemed ok with it.
Next, we went to Lowell to collect our reward for helping him dragging his business out of the dirt. And lo and behold, there were quite a few people at his shop when we arrived. He let us pick a total of 16 potions out of his “SALE” basket, few of which were actually useful.
Finally, we also picked up the painting from the painting cube. Just then, a group of four thugs wearing the guild emblem entered the shop and start to threaten Lowell. Casmos was already out, Gigi and Caefaera also decided it wasn’t their business anymore and left. Eldara, however, successfully managed to threaten them with the full authority of the law and actually made them leave. Outside, Caefaera noticed another golden acorn dangling from one of their clothing and while she distracted them, had Gigi steal it. It read “Harlow – deliver when ready”
Meanwhile, Casmos, took off aimlessly, wandering towards the seedy Dock Ward, where he promptly got robbed [Meta: After this, he cast Mage Armor on himself and had to roll a D100 to see if anything would happened because of the spell].
Eldara, meanwhile, discussed with Lowell what to do about the Guild situation. He really didn’t want to join, but also didn’t have a chance against them by himself. Eventually, he decided to pack up and become a travelling salesman of pictures and potions.
Eventually, thanks to Caefaera’s Wild Hunt expertise, we track down Casmos, who insisted we wasn’t lost, just “guided by the moon lady..”
What should we do next? We decided that the next step was to find the Kenku Blackbird that was wanted according to the Message Board we found. Bare any leads, we thought Casmos reading Tarot cards might be a good start to locate the birdy:
Location | Motivation | Obstacles | Approach | Outcome |
---|---|---|---|---|
The Hierophant | Death Reversed | The Empress | The Fool Reversed | The Lovers |
The Kenku seems to have nested in a most unconventional roost, defying the expectations of those who seek them. Their wings are heavy with the weight of resisting change, clinging to old feathers when it’s time to molt.
Our path is lined with the lush growth of protection - perhaps a maternal figure shields them in a place of comfort and abundance.
We must tread carefully. No leaping without looking!
But if we navigate these currents wisely, we may find ourselves at a understanding. There’s potential for harmony, a chance to mend the torn fabric between the Kenku and those they’ve wronged.
So a plan was formed:
In the afternoon, we would go apply to the Guard thing on the Message Board because the Tarot reading suggested the Kenku might hide among the city guard. Then, in the evening, Caefaera would respond via acorn that she considers rejoining the Wild Hunt, we would just need some help dealing with Harlow Driscoll.
