Ralathen's Dream After the Langston Investigation
It starts in Tomlin‘s garden, it’s a beautiful glowing scene, bright afternoon sun is shining down on lush green grass. Tomlin crouches among his plants, bathed in golden light, surrounded by small yellow flowers. He cradles one gently in his palm. He smiles at it, and his face transforms into that of a beautiful elf girl. The dream twists around her to reform into a memory, of a similar golden afternoon on a hilltop overlooking vast fields. The elf girl has bright white hair, and eyes the color of amber honey. She has a smudge of paint on her cheek, Ralathen sees his dream hand, his memory, reach out for the smudge, but she playfully bats his hand away. He hears her echoey memory dream voice say “leave it, Ill look like a real artist!” He thinks You were already a masterpiece. He tries to say it aloud but the dream shifts again. Another memory, the same girl, but weak and pale, lying in a large canopy bed. Still smiling at him but with a fraction of her previous radiance. He reaches out to her cheek again, not sun-warmed this time but clammy. The dream abruptly shifts and this time leans into true nightmare territory. he finds himself standing again in front of Tomlin, but he lays bloodied on the cobblestone street, lifeless eyes and gaping mouth staring back at Ralathen. Undead Maybelline is clawing at his chest, pulling out his heart to gnaw on. Every bite she takes, the heart grows back, she goes on eating, eating, eating. Behind them in the temple, Solaine, who appears in Roi‘s wolf form, laughs a hyena laugh on and on. Tomlin’s lifeless face croaks out “why why why?” Ralathen dream shouts I could have saved you, if I could do it again I would save you! If I could try again I’ll be faster! Why didn’t I run faster! The dream Tomlin‘s face merges with the sickly elf girl and they let out Tomlin‘s death scream, and he jolts awake, covered in a cold sweat. As he sits upright he comes face to face with his ghostly echo, staring back at him.
