The Duel and The Hare
After resting in the basement of The Stormy Dog, the party congregated around the bar for breakfast. Ranoa and Ralathen argued about something while Jukli and Fergus enjoyed their meals. Jukli noticed a harengon sitting at a table looking over at them scribbling on some papers. When Jukli went over to say hello to the harengon, he immediately grabbed up all of his papers announcing he was late, shoved the papers in his bag and sprinted off out the door. Some of the loose papers that fell to the floor Jukli noticed just had random doodles like the harengon was possibly studying the group closely and trying to look preoccupied.
The party then headed to the Military Barracks where Ralathen persuaded the captain of the guard, Gwendolyn, to have someone train Violet Roseburn in combat. She agreed to take in Violet for 10 weeks of training for a total of 50gp. Once that was squared away, the party headed to Onukora’s Institute of Wizardry for the duel between Violet and Ralathen.
Violet was waiting on the bridge as the party approached. She faced Ralathen and drew a rapier, brandishing it, ready for the duel to commence. Ralathen was immediately interested where she got this sword and began asking Violet about it, but, annoyed, Violet lunged forward and started the duel using some sort of magic to try to distract Ralathen to little effect. Ralathen easily countered and blocked Violet‘s attacks and continued to press her about where she got the sword and if she had received proper training with it. Violet managed to get a piece of Ralathen with a jab and immediately her eyes filled with extreme fervor and she attempts to wildly stab at him again, but he’s able to wrestle her into a choke hold and press for answer. She eventually admits she bought the sword from Aconite and paid him to give her basic lessons. At this point, Ralathen releases Violet and she backs away. She appears to be very attached to the sword and doesn’t let anyone handle it or accept a new sword from Ralathen. Ralathen attempts some reconciliation to which Violet seems somewhat responsive to and as she scampers away Ralathen let’s her know she signed her up for lessons at the Military Barracks to properly use a sword, to which she nods at and disappears around a corner.
The group then heads over to Jukli‘s mentor’s classroom to learn a new rune. Kizh is there with Rhit and, after the lesson involving repetitive writing, Jukli gives him the Hat of Vermin to play with.
With a new rune spell learned, Jukli and the rest of the gang head through the city to Lavidia Luck‘s house, but along the way, the party notices they are being followed by someone with long white ears, likely the suspicious harengon from the morning. At Lucy‘s, the group knock on her door with her golden key knocker, to which she answers happily. The group asks her how things are going and how the research is coming along about the location of Beira. She responds that her group is working on it and it will probably take a week or two for an answer, but that her group will probably be in touch as she’s told them good things.
Happy with the answers from Lucy, the group decides they will head down to Rosebury in the mean time as Ralathen would like to visit his mom. The group then rents a horse and cart and starts their trek down south.
