Tonk joined the Reconstituted 3rd Cohort after serving with distinction elsewhere in the Archontean Military for years. A veteran of special operations and reconnaissance missions, Tonk was heavily involved in training and leading commando units within the new 3rd Cohort.

After a training incident nearly cost Tonk and several members of one such unit their lives, he swore an oath to serve and protect Clarissa the Colorful, the mage and high-ranking officer who had averted disaster for the unit. This life debt saw Tonk not only become the head of Clarissa’s security detail in the 3rd Cohort – he also gave up his military career to follow her as a private body guard after the 3rd Cohort was disbanded.

Clarissa insisted on teaching Tonk, who proved to be a surprisingly quick learner. Indeed, Tonk had never been especially physically gifted, and his success as a fighter had always been a matter of determination and stubbornness combined with being a quick study. Clarissa tapped into these, and Tonk progressed quickly.

When Tonk proved unable to protect Clarissa from the sickness that ultimately claimed her life, he swore to redouble his studies, to learn enough to protect every one of his brothers- and sisters-at-arms.
