Half-Elf Bard 3

Born to star-crossed lovers in the elven realms, the son of an itinerant human merchant and an elven academic. Raised by his father Aarick after his mother Ramona Copperleaf dropped him off nine months after her previous visit (“the road is no place for a child, but a home is no place for me”). Fenpenny (“Fen”) stood out as a child — while he had his father’s ears, he also had his mother’s red hair. Feeling like all eyes were on him drove Fen to excel, which he did.

As a result, Fen was admitted to and matriculated at the Collegium of Macrina. However, although his trajectory to that point had largely mirrored that of his father, upon completion of his studies Fen veered off course. Rather than pursue an advanced degree, he joined the 3rd Cohort of the Imperial Tagmata as the unit’s historian. Fen justified his decision to his father and other mentors by explaining he had done so in the hopes of learning about the original cohort’s fate and, more importantly, what had become of the lost city Arden Vul and what new light its ruins might shed on the heroes Arden and Vul. Deep down, however, he also felt a pull, the same need to set out that had driven his mother to a life on the road.

Fen is particularly close to Vincent, the teenaged son of the 3rd Cohort’s late librarian.
