Friends and comrades, we must act now! Černoboš may still be alive!
He still drew breath when Vogelvina and I last saw him. As for the rest…
Bless Fernweh’s indomitable spirit. And Gods damn his impatience! When we arrived in the halls searching for where the orphans are being held, we were so careful, so deliberate, making use of Callum’s torch to sneak past an open doorway without drawing the attention of a patrol of baboons. We moved as silently as possible through the corridors, proceeding cautiously, locating a secret door indicated on the scrap of map we had with us. Frustrated by a locked door that bested our party’s lock-picking skills (and destroyed Vogelvina’s thieves tools), we ultimately found a pair of doors from behind which a voice commanded a hooting troupe.
We took a beat and listened. We readied ourselves, waiting patiently, considering the situation and how best to proceed…
Until Fernweh heard Gerrilad the Grey threatening a prisoner. At that point our stout friend could no longer heed reason.
When he burst through one of the doors to the throne room and saw that enormous, four-armed ape and a handful of baboons, Fernweh didn’t flinch. He and Vogelvina immediately engaged the beasts in combat. While the baboons proved to be mighty foes, our group started to make steady progress against them. However, the enormous ape the druid called “Sisko“ was another story, as Wolfwig and Aylwin rushed in only for the one to see the other ripped limb from limb.
In the meantime, Černoboš rushed to aid the prisoner on the dias — Samantha, Gerrilad had called her — in the middle of the chamber while Callum and I made use of the black-light torch to sneak up on Gerrilad and hide him from the view of everybody else. But even as I magically disguised myself as the evil druid in the hopes of confusing or even commandeering his followers, Gerrilad transformed into an enormous beast.
The rest was a blur. Sisko attacked Fernweh, and when he was done flung Fernweh’s lifeless body into a pit. Huzzah! fought bravely but fell as well. As Vogelvina and I fled, I knew I could only try to help one person. At the last second I shouted a healing word to Čer before following Callum and Vogelvina out of the halls.
Our comrades must not have died in vain! Černoboš may still live, and the orphans Gerrilad intends to sacrifice need yet to be rescued!
