Durad
Elven Capital
- Attempted Assassination of Amakir Celebourne: 11 Ilnar 2550
The Elven Capital is a large city in the middle of the Forest, surrounded by trees of all different kind.
Similarly, the city is populated from people from all cultures and corners of this world. However it is mainly populated, and ruled, by the elven people as this is their home land.
The Elven Kingdom is ruled by Amakir of House Celeborne, who works in conjunction with the Church of Xzur on a variety of religious missions. The Church’s Capital is in the city as well.
The Lineage of House Celeborne has ruled the Elven Kingdom for thousands of years, since its inception, and had previously functioned in a more diplomatic manner. After ruling for 50 to 100 years, the current ruler would step down from the throne, and a new ruler would be appointed.
This ruler would be voted in by the Elven Council, which is made up of this Kingdoms past rulers after they have stepped down, and this new Ruler would be one of the new generation to bring revolutionary bounds in Technology but also Equality.
Unfortunately, 100 years ago the current Elven King, Amakir Celebourne, took it upon himself to assassinate the Elven Council and forcefully retain his seat on the Throne.
Since then the King has completely devolved from what the nation used to be, now it is more of a police state where he rules with an Iron Fist.
This has gone so far as to the King having completely outlawed Divination magic, and all magical items. And for a non-clerical magic wielder to legally wield magic they must pass a standardized test, or be thrown in jail and/or have their magic stripped from them.
Because of this ban on magic, the city’s underground has developed a quite literal Underground Black Market where such banned goods and aid can be located, however this is only for a high price.
The Kingdom also has a small Town off to the North East, there there is the home base of the Resistance, who work day and night to overthrow this vile Tyrant and reclaim the Elven Kingdom for what it once was.
The Elven Guard are the Kings closest advisors since the assassination of the Elven Council. However this Guard is simply there to protect the king at all costs, no matter the price.
It is comprised of the strongest personnel the king could find throughout the world, carrying a basic Barbarian, Cleric, Wizard, and Ranger.
These Guards each control and look out for a section of the Elven Army. Each sectors of the army follow similar practices of their respective leaders.
The Elven Kingdom is set up like a basic Circle, in the center of this circle is the large castle, build literally like a fortress with entrances only accessible to those who have been given express permission by the King.
Beyond this center, it circles out by rank, the closest to the capital are the most wealthy and influential, and the closer to the boarders the more poor.
Underneath the castle lays the Adamantine Mines, which is partially why the King is in power. This adamantine is only known about by the king and the Church of Xzur’s leader Ezekiel Tokas.
Speaking of the Church of Xzur, the Church is locating almost just across the street from the Kings Castle. It is the home base of both the legitimate Church as well as its underground occult form.
The leader of this church, Ezekiel, is rarely around, and travels around on religious missions a lot, however they do stay in contact with the king via letters or missionaries being sent through the cities.
Defenses
The Defenses of the Elven Capital, Durad, are far and wide. Ranging from the massive wall encircling the city and the Warforged soldiers posted 24/7 on the top of this wall, to the King’s personal Guard and the city’s Army (who are trained and take orders from the Guard)
Guilds and Factions
The main faction in Durad is the House Celebourne. Whose stance on Magic is critical and stringent, only allowing religious practitioners, or those in his guard, to practice it. Because of this there has been an antithesis faction forming over the decades of Amakir’s rule dubbed, The Resistance. This Resistance are the main creators of the literal Underground Black Market underneath Durad. They are mostly held up in Durad’s neighbor city, ruled similarly by the House of Celebourne, Rhadmir.
History
The Kingdom of Durad is a kingdom that has historically been ruled by the House of Celebourne. The House of Celebourne founded this nation a thousand years ago, it was originally a haven from the Donaar War, a hideaway for those races who were being hunted by Humans. The city was built upon these idealistic beliefs of equality and freedom, which is why the kingdom had the patron god, Xzur, who’s domain is that of the same beliefs. There was even a rumor at the time that this family of Elves had been gifted a blessing of health and prosperity by the god. To this day the relationship with the Church of Xzur holds strong.
