Arc 2: Of Death and Depths
At the request of Captain Baligard, the party was enlisted to do an off-the-books welfare check on the Solar Cathedral located in Neverwinter. Taking the inconspicuous approach, the group came upon a scene unfitting of a place of worship for Kelemvor: a handful of possessed commoners and priests surrounded by an aftermath of a massacre.
With excellent coordination accompanied by great skill checks, the party was able to secure the safety of all Commoners and the priest while slaying their ghostly inhabitants. Noticing that there was a spiral stairwell that led to the crypts below, the party made a note to inspect, but not before learning a few interesting tidbits:
• this possessed group must have been like this for at least a week if not two weeks
• the possessed priest was forced to partake in a gruesome ritual of sorts
• each possessed individual experienced the phantom itch
The party soon made their way quietly down to the crypts and encounter the following creatures: a zombie beholder, a flameskull, spectors, wraith warriors, and a boneclaw. After successfully fighting through the hoard of undead, the party managed to make it inside the sealed chambers where they discovered a mechanism that allowed for communications through the Ethereal Plane. There, Rittle and Kitmor connected with the device and sank into the plane that sits between the Material and all else, intruding on a conversation taking place in the past and present simultaneously. It was there they learned a few key items before being discovered and shunted back into their world.
The group interrogated the Kelemvor priest for further details on what transpired before notifying Captain Baligard about the situation. After which, the adventurers boarded their ship and left for Leilon, only to encounter a sea dragon by the name of Xonodrai’on who sought out the group that annihilated the sahuagin army under the control of the Cult of Talos. Xonodrai’on was tricked into believing that the group wasn’t in fact the perpetrators, and that they would be able to lead them to another person of interest: Merrygold Brightshine, who the party learns is a traitor to the Cult of Talos. Convinced the sea dragon instructed they lead him to Merrygold’s location, to which the ground decided to head to Leilon Point in an attempt to avoid large casualties.
Despite the odds being against the Company of Ebony & Ivory, the party managed to succeed in taking down the Sea Dragon. This sent Kitmor into a trance immediately, during which she flashed back to the last days of the Ring of Mask (details), emergence of Boreas
