Find Gartok's Children
Side Quest
Overview
Gartok the fairy dragon requests the help of the Doodlers to find his children. His children ran away from him. Gartok reveals to the dads that his children should be found on the path to Neverwinter from Phandalin. He believes they’ll be in either a spooky cave or mysterious forest.
Quest Notes
When the dads reach the cave entrance, Gartok reveals that he can’t actually go get his kids. Nor can he explain why he can’t go get his kids. The leather bracelets on his arms appear to be doing something to him. When Henry inspects the bracelets, there are some sort of rune etchings on the three bracelets.
Removing one of Gartok’s bracelets kills one of his kids.
When the dads locate the kids in their hideout, negotiations quickly break down. The two remaining children insist that the only way to help them is by killing Gartok.
During conversation with the dads, Reese and Sylvan explain they drew from a Deck of Many things that a purple cloaked creature offered them. They could change one thing about their past, and decided that Gartok would put the bracelets on himself. One of the bracelets – the one Ron removed – was linked to Drakon’s life. Gartok used the siblings love for each other to keep them in line.
Resolution
This quest is resolved by Gartok wearing the bracelets he put on his kids, this time with new etchings. The new clauses are:
- The Golden Rule with the loophole closed (even if you don’t like yourself you still have to treat your kids and the ones they love well)
- Respect your kids’ decisions (and avoid store brand toilet paper and mac and cheese).
- These bracelets cannot be removed by anyone other than these four dads.
Despite Gartok’s heartfelt honesty, Sylvan and Reese promise to kill Gartok or the dads if they ever cross paths again.
