Illien
Illien is an exclusively human nation ruled by a council of six spellcasters. Illien is often considered to be the most barbaric and savage nation in all of Edar, despite its relative high quality of life, low rate of crime, and internationally renowned spellcasting schools.
Illien is the last remaining nation that openly practices slavery. In lieu of sentencing criminals to jail or levying fines upon them, the government of Illien will instead auction its criminals off as slaves to its populace. Depending on the nature of the crime, this tenure of slavery can be either temporary or permanent, however even those sentenced to temporary stints as slaves risk being killed before being freed. Furthermore, Illien has banned all non-humans from entering its borders. Any Elves, Dwarves, or Gnomes that enter into Illien risk being captured and sold as slaves to the highest bidder. Because of their extremely long lives, there is a sizeable population of Dwarven and Elven slaves within Illien. This practice, of course, regularly puts Illien at odds with many kingdoms in Edar, particularly Andor and Cairhien. However due to Illien serving as a bulwark against raids from the Scoutsbane Wastes, no nation has seen fit to invade Illien and free its slaves.
