The Plague Citadel
History
A Sanctuary Amidst Desperation
During the cataclysmic height of the Spellplague, when the world was gripped by panic and hysteria, Ellerion stood apart as a beacon of hope. The city embarked on a courageous mission to recruit individuals naturally resistant to poisons from all corners of the world. In doing so, it aimed to combat the devastating effects of the Spellplague, an act of bravery that would forever shape its destiny.
The Unwanted Moniker
Despite its noble intentions and remarkable successes in treating the afflicted, Ellerion’s reputation became marred by the very plague it sought to combat. The city’s dedication to healing led to it becoming a hot spot for the Spellplague, and it was tragically christened “The Plague Citadel.” The name stuck, and even as the plague waned, the city’s reputation remained tainted by fear and misunderstanding.
Masks of Resilience
The aftermath of the Spellplague left an indelible mark on The Plague Citadel. Toxic mushrooms and spores, once harnessed for their medicinal properties, now permeate the city. To protect themselves from these lingering hazards, its citizens wear masks as a symbol of unity and a practical defense against the ever-present dangers. These masks have become an integral part of daily life in the city, a symbol of resilience and adaptability.
Eternal Twilight Realm
Within the city’s boundaries, darkness reigns supreme. There is no natural light to be found, save for the occasional patches of phosphorescent fungus that cast an eerie and otherworldly glow over the streets and structures. In this perpetual twilight, the city’s inhabitants have adapted, their senses attuned to the shadowy realm they call home.
Guardians of Jade and Magic
The Plague Citadel is not defenseless against the perils that lurk in the shadows. Gigantic magical jade spider constructs, known as the “Jade Wardens,” stand sentinel over the city. These guardians are formidable protectors, their presence a testament to the city’s determination to safeguard its residents from external threats.
A Story of Resilience and Hope
In the annals of history, The Plague Citadel will forever stand as a testament to the unyielding spirit of its people. From the darkest depths of the Spellplague to the shadowed realm it has become, this city has endured and adapted. It is a sanctuary of healing and resilience, where the legacy of the past continues to shape the present. In The Plague Citadel, where shadows conceal both secrets and strength, the masks worn by its inhabitants are a reminder that even in the face of adversity, hope can persist and bloom.
